Policies

It is our goal to pursue excellence in all that we do so that our God might be glorified. To accomplish this, it is necessary that parents be involved. We understand that every family is different and that some will be able to participate more than others. Each family is asked to commit to at least one area of service. The choices for service are listed on the registration form and should be prayerfully considered. Parents whose students are enrolled in the Academy program are required to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours over the course of the year. The events and programs that we coordinate are for the benefit and teaching of our students. These events require time and effort, and each family must be willing to help in order to make these possible.  If you know that you will be unable to contibute at least 4 hours of your time due to family obligations you may pay a $40 fee which we will use to pay someone to do these jobs. This fee is payable with your registration  If you do not fulfill your commitment during the year, this fee will be applied to your bill.

We also seek to be good stewards of that which has been entrusted to us. In order for us to plan accurately, we ask each family to view their involvement as a commitment for the entire year. We base the budget on this assumption, and even one or two withdrawals can have a negative effect. Exceptions to this policy are the following:
1. Death of a parent
2. Loss of job
3. Moving over 30 miles from school.
No transfers of tuition to other families are allowed.

Parents are required to pick up students on time. Fines will be assessed for late pick-ups. The fee is $1 per child, per minute after the first 10 minutes. These fees also apply to students dropped off more that 10 minutes early. There are study halls available should you need to use them. The Park Street Baptist Church and Excelsior! Academy require that no student be left unattended at any time. This is for the protection of the students as well as the church's property. Park Street Baptist and Excelsior! Academy require that all students be supervised at all times We cannot leave the building while students are still present. Students may not be present in the building or on church property unless they are enrolled in a class or study hall.

Student Responsibilities
Students are expected to obey all teachers, assistants, and staff. When addressing adults while at Excelsior! Academy, all students are required to use "Sir" and Ma'am." Students are expected to attend all classes and to be there on time. No leaving of classes will be allowed without permission from the teacher. Skipping of classes will not be tolerated. General respect for other students and for the property will also be expected. Absolutely no swearing or cursing is allowed. Parents will be required to attend classes with their child if problems persist. After three infractions, the student will be asked to leave the program.

Students and parents are expected to commit to the work and performance schedule of this program. Toward the end of the year, there will be extra rehearsals that some students will be expected to attend. This is to ensure that our performance is one of high quality of which all are proud.

Reading materials which are assigned should be purchased well in advance to allow time for reading. If reading selections are not completed, it causes students to be bored and uninterested during class time. They are unable to participate in class discussions and projects. Please make sure that students complete all reading assignments.
Dress Code
We should be concerned that our appearance is clean and neat. Students must wear one of the Excelsior! shirts, tucked into their pants/skirts at all times. One shirt per student is included with registration, and other styles with the school logo can be ordered from Land's End. See a director for information or a catalog. We will also offer a variety of styles for purchase.

Boys and girls may wear khaki or navy pants, knee-length shorts, jumpers, or knee-length skirts. Skirts may not have slits that extend higher than the knee.  The knee-length stipulation applies even if leggings are worn.  Please do not wear any clothes that are too tight, nor pants that are too large and sagging or dragging the floor.  NO JEANS may be worn to Excelsior! Academy.

No hats, please. All reasonable footwear is acceptable, except for flip-flops, roller-skate shoes, or extreme platforms. Five and six year olds should bring an art smock or large t-shirt to class to protect clothes and wear sturdy shoes to class. They should not wear clogs or flip-flops because they are unsafe on the playground equipment.

Our desire is to bring glory to God in all we do, and our appearance is part of all we do. We set a dress code with the goal that our appearance will not be a distraction to the work we want to accomplish in our time together at Excelsior! Academy.
