Our goal as Christian parents is to raise children who love Christ and know how to apply the principles of their faith to the world around them. We must intentionally and faithfully pass on to our children the mission of reclaiming and redeeming the culture for the glory of God. This dominion mandate was first given in Genesis and is reconfirmed by Paul as he tells us we must learn "to bring every thought captive to Christ." We believe, and must affirm daily to our children, that all things (from the physical to the academic to the aesthetic) hold together in Christ. This is also the philosophy of Excelsior! Academy, and our goal is to aid parents in this mission. In developing an effective, scriptural worldview, we must teach our children how to love and appreciate the arts. The arts are a powerful means through which we can glorify God and exhibit beauty, but unfortunately, Christians long ago abdicated the arts to our secular culture. Through Excelsior! Academy we are striving to teach both the power and the fundamentals of the arts, undergirded by a solid Christian worldview. Excelsior! teaches the arts through the context of history. This historical framework heightens the students' understanding and appreciation for the art, music, and drama of that period. This knowledge is intensified as the child is taught by qualified, Christian teachers. Excelsior! Academy is expanding its reach to include literature, communication, and other academic disciplines. Do you want your child to learn to influence his culture, while exploring the biblical foundation for the arts and different academic disciplines? Do you want your child to receive excellent instruction in the arts? Do you want your child to develop a taste for artistic excellence that enhances, rather than compromises, his spiritual depth? Would you like your child to increase his literary knowledge and communication skills? Then consider joining this committed community of teachers, parents, and students known as Excelsior! Academy. The Excelsior! board, staff, and faculty, in tandem with home schooling parents, are committed to raising a generation of students who can positively influence their culture for Christ.

Excelsior! Academy teaches students ages 4 years old through High School.
During the 2008-2009 school year we will be using The Mystery of History, Vol. 2 by Linda Hobar for our history text. Each family is required to purchase a copy of this book. This text includes required reading for each week, maps, and optional activities to complement what is covered in class.
In addition, students 8 and older will be required to read 5-6 books per school year for literature. These books are chosen to enhance the student's understanding of the time period as well as to serve as a tool for learning literary elements. |

"The only way to drive out bad culture is to create good culture. We need to recognize that artistic talent is a gift from the Lord - and that developing that talent is the only way to create good culture." C. S. Lewis |
