Families often ask what it means when a curriculum is described as SCAIHS-approved. In simple terms, it means the courses and curriculum align with the expectations of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools, one of the legal homeschool accountability options in South Carolina.
At Excelsior Academy, we state that our classes and curriculum are approved by SCAIHS. For families, this provides reassurance that the academic content is aligned with South Carolina homeschool expectations and designed to support students well.
That does not mean every homeschool family in South Carolina must use the same curriculum. It does mean that families want confidence that what their children are studying is academically sound, appropriate for their grade level, and consistent with recognized homeschool standards in our state. South Carolina law also requires coverage of core academic subjects, which gives families an important framework for planning.
For many parents, clarity matters. When curriculum is thoughtfully chosen and aligned with recognized standards, it frees families to focus less on uncertainty and more on helping their children learn well.
